Educate Yourself Using the Net

The Internet has become a the best place to get information, and people are willingly sharing their knowledge. You can search any topic you are interested in, and you’ll find answers in such knowledge ports as Wikipedia, GoArticles or EzineArticles. Do you wish to learn to play the drums? Have you always wished to know how to draw a car? The Net is ready for you.  With so much information available, it’s no wonder that people are beginning to forsake traditional learning establishments, and find themselves using the Internet to study independently.

If you are one of these self-taught students, you’ll need more than an Internet connection to achieve your goal. The Internet will present you with all the relevant material, but you still have to sit yourself down and study. Having no teachers, quizzes or homework makes studying more pleasant, but not less demanding. These tips will help you keep your head together:

1. Show determination. You want to learn? Good! There’s no one to prevent it. Remember that no one can force you to study but yourself.

2. Mark your target. You must make sure that you know exactly what you want to achieve by your studies. Do you know exactly what you’d like to study, and for what purpose? Once you’ve got good answers to these questions, you are ready to move on to the next step.

3. Mark “Study time” in your calendar. You are a free agent, but you must make sure that you can designate a few hours every week for studies. Remember that the amount of time you spend studying should fit your goals. You want to learn Dutch, but can only spare 1 hour every week? It’s not going to work.

4. Gather material. Let the studying begin! Tap into search engines and knowledge bases looking for the information you need.

5. Practice. Being independent does not exempt you from practice. Find ways to exercise your brain.

6. Enjoy! This one is an important tip: try not to lose your enthusiasm for learning. Even if you feel tired or frustrated, remember how fortunate you are to be able to study on your own.

I congratulate you on your choice, and I’m sure you’ll find your studies interesting and enriching.
