Are you receiving unwanted phone calls and need to know who is behind those calls? For many people, receiving prank calls or unknown calls can be incredibly unsettling.

Luckily, there are a few quick and easy options that will allow you to find the exact identity of those people. Here are 5 strategies that will help you find whose behind those calls.

1. Google- Google is a powerful tool in identifying telemarketers and businesses. I’ve used search engines on many occasions, and each time I found out that other people had experienced the same calls from the exact same numbers. If the search turns up a telemarketer, all you need to do is call them once with a stern warning. More often than not this will completely stop the phone calls coming from that number.

2. Free Phone Directories- These are like phone books. The Whitepages, Anywho, and 411 all have websites that let you type in the phone number. This is a good option if you want to turn up home phones or landlines. They do not bring up cell phone numbers however.

3. Paid Phone Directories- I’ve used these in the past, but with very little success. You basically pay for a membership and you get access to a cell phone directory. I’ve found that these directories are poorly updated and I’ve had problems finding phone numbers.

4. Reverse Phone Number Tracker- This is your best option. You type in a phone number and you get an instant report showing the name, address, provider, and connection status of the phone number. It helps you identify both landlines and cell phones.

Another thing you can do, if you are bold enough, is to call the number yourself or have someone else call the number. Make sure you keep your identity private. If you do enlist the help of another person, make sure they conceal their number. The last thing you want to do is to unload the unwanted phone calls on that person. Consider calling from a pay phone.

As a final tip, I would be very wary of any online service that offers free phone searches. You wouldn’t want to identify the wrong person. These services are usually scams.

I’d suggest that you try the first two options if you have no clue as to the source of the phone calls. Chances are, if you have reached this page, you probably exhausted those options and are looking to skip right to the reverse phone number tracker.
