Sperm donation is the practice by which a man gives or more commonly sells his semen to be used specifically to produce a baby and it is not a new concept, men have been doing it for years. Dating back over fifty years, sperm donation is still a simple reproductive process. Today it is a well established form of treatment to help a woman become pregnant whose partner has a zero sperm count.
Multiple treatments may be requires as it is not always successful but sperm donation has become increasingly popular owing the rise in male infertility rates. Ultimately, the use of sperm donation is for women who want to be mothers even if they do not have a partner. Unfortunately, there are couples that are unable to conceive naturally and sperm donation has helped them to enjoy the pleasures of parenting.
Some women are lucky and a relation is able to donate sperm but this cannot always be done if there is a genetic medical problem within the family. Many women want to feel the child grow inside them and know it as their own so do not look at adoption and are happy to have sperm donation. Sperm donation is normally offered as a facility to men who are undergoing chemotherapy where there is a chance that fatherhood may not be possible when the course of treatment is over.
Sperm donation is no longer just merely a medical matter because it has become closely related with the law and ethics. Many young men now use sperm donation as a method of raising money as the market for specimens is a lucrative one and at 0 a time, far more than donating blood. Egg and sperm donation is big business because of course there would be no fertility industry to speak of without them. Women undergoing egg donation may find they have to go through a number of injections before they have any success whereas sperm donation is a much quicker and simple procedure. Currently a woman have sperm insemination will have this carried out using ejaculated and washed sperm via the uterus or in vitro.
Every country has its own rules regarding sperm donation, some allow anonymity, while others do not just as some accept sperm donors but not egg. It is a situation that in the long term will need better clarification because if adoption becomes harder or more costly and sperm/egg donation is unavailable, the population rate will start to decrease.
